Custom cabinets in Erie, CO

What does a custom cabinet project look like in Erie?
What kinds of homes are in Erie, and why does it matter for cabinets?
Almost all of them are subdivision houses built since 2000, with a small Old Town from the coal-mining years as the exception. That makes Erie unusual in Boulder County: the cabinets are not old, they are just builder grade.
Erie was settled in 1867 and incorporated in 1874 as a coal town; most of its mines were closed by 1960, and the last, the Eagle Mine, closed in 1978. The town then stayed small for decades: 1,258 people in 1990. Then it grew faster than almost anywhere in the state: 6,291 in 2000, 18,135 in 2010, 30,038 in 2020 and an estimated 40,904 in 2025 (Wikipedia, checked October 2026). Nearly every house in town was built in that run, and most kitchens were fitted with the stock cabinets the builder offered.
Old Town Erie, the original town center, is the exception, with some houses from the mining years. The approach there is the same as in any older house: measure the room as it is and scribe the cabinets to it.
Is it worth replacing builder-grade cabinets in a 5-to-15-year-old Erie home?
Yes, when the boxes are failing or the layout wastes space, and it is cheaper than it sounds because the plumbing, electrical and floor plan usually stay put.
Builder-grade cabinets tend to share the same weak points: particleboard boxes that swell where the sink or dishwasher has leaked, one shallow drawer over a door in every base cabinet, wide filler strips where stock widths didn’t fit, uppers that stop a foot short of a 9-foot ceiling, and an island sized to the floor plan rather than to how you cook. Doors and drawer fronts also drift out of line as cheap hinges and slides wear.
A custom replacement keeps the sink, range and dishwasher where they are, which keeps other trades off the job, and rebuilds the rest: deep drawer stacks for pots and dishes, uppers to the ceiling, a tall pantry cabinet with pull-outs, and cabinets sized to the inch so fillers shrink to a sliver. Plan on new countertops. See custom kitchen cabinets for layout options and custom vs. semi-custom vs. stock for what each tier changes. Our standard is frameless (full-access) boxes built from 3/4-inch plywood, with Blum soft-close hinges and Blum full-extension, soft-close undermount drawer slides.
How should an open-plan kitchen with an island work?
Treat the island as furniture seen from the living room. In the open plans common in Erie’s newer houses, the island’s back and sides, the end panels and the tall cabinets are all on display, so they need finished panels and a layout that looks deliberate from every side.
Common planning numbers: about 42 inches of aisle between the island and the counter for one cook, and closer to 48 inches if two people cook together; 12 to 15 inches of overhang with knee space for seating; and 36 inches for standard counter height. Open plans put storage on view, so drawers and tall pantry pull-outs do more of the work and uppers can be limited to one wall. A painted island with natural oak perimeter cabinets, or the reverse, is a common way to break up a long open room. Our standard finishes are painted (a curated palette), natural white oak, stained white oak and walnut.
Do you serve Erie addresses in Weld County?
Yes. Erie sits in the southwest corner of Weld County and extends west into Boulder County; at the 2020 census 17,387 residents (58 percent) lived in Weld County and 12,651 (42 percent) in Boulder County (Wikipedia, checked October 2026). If your address is in Erie, it is in our service area whichever side of the line it is on.
What about new construction and custom builds?
Erie is still adding houses, and cabinets for a new build follow a different sequence: designed from the plans while the house is framed, confirmed with a site measure after drywall, and installed or delivered once the house is closed in and dry, before the countertop template.
We also build to a builder’s or designer’s drawings and deliver uninstalled for your crew to set; see cabinets for contractors and designers.
Does Colorado’s dry air affect cabinets in a newer Erie home?
Yes. Erie gets about 16 inches of precipitation a year by the 1991–2020 NOAA normals (Wikipedia, checked October 2026), and forced-air heat dries indoor air further in winter. Wood expands and shrinks with those swings, so materials and construction need to allow for it.
A newly built house adds another factor: framing, drywall and concrete give off moisture in their first months before the house settles into its normal, dry state, which is one reason doors on builder cabinets drift out of line in the first year or two. What helps: stable plywood boxes and flat panels, five-piece doors with floating center panels, parts that acclimate in the house before install, and a quick hinge adjustment after the first heating season.
What else do Erie homeowners add besides a kitchen?
In subdivision homes, the entry from the garage and the laundry room come next, then the primary bath. Matching the kitchen’s door style and finish across them ties the house together.
- Laundry and mudroom cabinets: a bench about 18 inches high, hooks and cubbies at the garage door, and uppers over the washer and dryer.
- Bathroom vanities: double vanities for a primary bath, 30 to 36 inches tall.
- Pantries and built-ins: walk-in pantry storage, a coffee station, a home-office wall and built-ins around a family-room fireplace or TV wall.
Every package can be used in any room, so a vanity or mudroom can match the kitchen exactly.

Erie custom cabinet questions
How much do custom kitchen cabinets cost in Erie?
It depends mostly on how many linear feet of cabinets the kitchen needs, how many drawers and tall cabinets are in the plan, and the door style and finish. Woodridge Cabinets packages start at $750 per linear foot installed (Essential), $1,050 (Select) and $1,450 (Signature), so a typical 20-foot kitchen starts around $15,000. Our Colorado cost guide explains what moves the number, and the instant estimate page gives you a range for your room in about a minute.
Do you serve Erie addresses that are in Weld County?
Yes. Erie straddles the county line, and at the 2020 census more of its residents lived on the Weld County side than the Boulder County side. If your address is in Erie, it's in our service area whichever county it falls in. Send your address with your quote request and we'll take it from there.
My Erie house is only 10 years old. Why would I replace the cabinets?
Because builder-grade cabinets are chosen to a budget, not to the room. Common complaints at 5 to 15 years: particleboard boxes swelling under the sink, doors and drawers that no longer line up, one shallow drawer per base cabinet, wide fillers, and uppers that stop short of the ceiling. A replacement in the same layout avoids plumbing and electrical work and fixes the storage.
Can you build cabinets for a new custom home in Erie?
Yes. We can design from the builder's or designer's plans while the house is framed, confirm every dimension with a site measure after drywall, and deliver or install once the house is closed in and dry, before the countertop template. Builders and designers can send drawings directly through our trade page.
Do I need HOA approval to replace kitchen cabinets in Erie?
Every HOA sets its own rules. Architectural review usually focuses on exterior changes, but covenants can also cover work hours, dumpsters, storage containers and contractor parking. Read your covenants or ask the management company before install week, and get approval for any exterior change, such as a range-hood vent through an outside wall.
